Oct 9th. The Pill Box. Here we are 30 plus miles from the sea at Lyme Regis and some Whitehall mandarin thought that it would be really worth while building a pill box on the edge of a field over looking what was at that time a disused canal. Central government wasting money is not just a sign if these modern times.
Oct 8th. The auction pit at Bridgewater market
Bridgwater is a massive new market built on Junction 24 of the M5. With both Taunton and Bridgewater markets previously being slap in the middle of their respective towns the local authority built a massive new market, transportation, parking animal health are all top notch. Watching it in action is really quite an eye opener.
Oct 7th. Jim has been making cider in East Ling at Parsons Farm for many years; he is the cider maker whilst his daughter Jeanette runs not only the cider shop but also a large farm based garden pot business. This years cider is going to be “OK, but not marvellous” apparently, lack of rain early in the year being the culprit
Oct 6th The Bridge to John Miller's, there are few people who own their own bridges to their homes. I highlighted a suspension bridge a bout six weeks ago, This week it the turn of the rotating bridge with gives access to Outmoor Farm.
Oct 5th. A pure bred Hampshire Down Ram, which my next door neightbour has just purchased for next years lambs. He is a stocky and sizable chap with a very serious back end. The straps around him hold a coloured raddle or dye which maks up on the ewe wheen he has done his business, this week's colour is yellow. Lets see if he performs.
Oct 4th Adrian Organ. They doing as a partner of ours within the Keats group he is our only chartered surveyor and looks after the Petersfield and Rowlands Castle offices. Professional work is Adrian's forte and he'll be the first one to say residential agency needs a certain type of person
Oct 3rd Ken the Ferrari Man. The sleepy village of Grayshott has its own that Ferrari Garage looking after the cars of all the great and the good throughout the south-east. Ken has been there for many years and we often see him driving up and down the village in these mean machines
Oct 2nd. An Indian Summers's day. This was a glorious Sunday afternoon well into October, we were very lucky that both Fred Fergus and also Jess came down and we had a lovely weekend. Sally joined us as well and it was as though it was the middle of the summer
Oct 1st. Boo hoo hoo we lost. Andy Robinson and Gregor Townsend 43 seconds from being kicked out of the Rugby World Cup. The face on Andy Robinson tells it all as Scotland except. It was a close game with Scotland putting up a good show and England playing very poorly, time to say goodbye to Martin Johnson next week we shall see.
Sept 30 Pedro the farmer. Pedro is the adjoining farmer to Uncle Robs villa in Majorca. Each evening during the autumn he would come home and wrote a date underneath the olive and fig trees and although we have never been to Majorca in the winter we suspect there is a crop of some sort sewn
Sept 29th The town Square in Maria. A very quiet village midway between Palma and Polenca in the agricultural heartland of Majorca. We were the only people in the square for lunch including the locals little wonder Spain is in such awful economic problems with everyone sleeping halfway through the day
Sept 28th Molle du Serte. This is an old windmill in one of the towns in the agricultural part of Majorca, used to extract water from deep Artesian Wells there are very few of them around now and ruins litter the landscape everywhere this one has been turned into a rather upmarket restaurant
Sept 27th Alphonso the air dried ham man. In the market in Porto Polenca is a selection of home produced food from olives to air dried hands cheeses and all types of Mediterranean fare, it is just a joy to walk around an open-air market like this and see how Sainsbury's should be doing it!
Sept 26th The Bocquer Valley just outside Porta Pollencia. This is a lovely walk from the main road down a totally unspoiled Valley with huge mountains on either side. The area is well known for migrating birds heading towards North Africa and is without hotel beach bar or Pizza Hut what a joy
Seot 25th Dining in Pollencia on a loveley summer's evening. I met this chap. It was outside dining in the square right in the centre of the town. It's 10.30 at night children are playing beside the table and there was a very relaxed Mediterranean feeling that we just don't seem to pick up in the United Kingdom
24th Sept Sunrise over the Formentor Hill. From the Villa at El Sueno I picked up this lovely sunrise coming over the eastern horizon. 2 min later the sun was in the sky and the colours were all but gone but the two or 3 min before sunup more spectacular.
Sept 23rd A wedding in the central square in Pollenenca, Majorcia. This was an extraordinary sight both Richard and I were amused by the fact that the bride seem to be more impressed by her Vision Express heavy rimmed spectacles on the day than any other part of the celebration. In years to come she will look back and think what was I doing!
Sept 22nd A Bocquer Valley Goat. This was our first walk along the valley this year the wild goats were everywhere mixed with the smell of time and wild lavender. This goat looked rather surprised to see us but another five followed followed it across the path right in front of us they all looked a little scrawny for meat and milk wasn't an option as it didn't appear to be any kids
Sept 21st Fosse Cottage, North Curry. I rather like Fosse cottage and I suspect it was one of the old schoolhouses immediately off the church, the windows are clearly ecclesiastical and it seemed to epitomise everything in this lovely Lane just off the centre of North Curry
Sept 20th AJ Houston. Not Happy! We popped around to Robin Gill to pick up the keys of the filvilla, AJ was not a happy bunny as you can see but the reason I like this photograph is that Fi is sitting in the background laughing and granny dealing with problems and what's more granny loves it
Sept 19th Adrian Blythe . TVR Dealer Adrian is part of the establishment in Grayshott village he has half of the old Ferrari showroom in the middle of the village and seems to do a good trade specially in TVRs, he and I talk quite often and he is a barometer to the economic climate as we are and quite often when the housing market is poor so is the car market
Sept 18th. I much admired the Swans on the River Tone at the bottom of the Levels. Through all adversity she has managed to rear seven cygnets and that's quite a feat having seen the number of foxes that patrol around the fields soon they will be gone and another batch follows in the spring.
Sept 17th Calmardy House. This is a classical Georgian house set in the Fosse delightful elevations it was built by the Calmardy family in Devon. There is a large garden to the rear and I understand the features an internal rooms in the house delightful, we have yet to find out
Sept 16th The Round England Cycle Race. We waited for this gang of cyclists for 40 min and during that time we must've seen at least 50 police out riders shepherding them on a rolling road block through the village. It was all done in a flash I really can't see what the French see in this sport.
15th Sept . Michelle Riedy. Michelle and her husband Noel run the post office in Grayshott. Michelle many operating at the counter whilst no runs a really super crepe bar which recently occupied an extension to the rear. This is a real family business right in the heart of the village
14th Sept Fred, Jess and Ferg. We wrap in London to see Fred's new flat which is renting right in the middle of Mayfair, I was quite surprised to see further say where we arrived as he had travelled down from Oxford just a serious that was really nice. Just losing within a couple of weeks it. It's really exciting having your first new home
13th Sept. Pam Smith. Pam runs parklands property lawyers in Guildford are really excellent outfit the deals with the legal conveyancing of mainly residential properties. She and Catherine her partner have a large slice of the market as they give excellent service and always willing to talk rather than avoid estate agents are rare treat in these hurried days
12th Sept. Kingsley Hampshire. After work tonight we went for a walk on Kingsley common near Headley. Adjoining the lake and the common is the village church Kingsley which seems to signal that in previous days Kingsley was perhaps a more wealthy village and it is now. This is one of the few photographs where I feature
Sept 11th The Bird in Hand. Is the local pub for North Curry. Over the years to other problems have closed leaving this one on its own to heart to charge rather high prices but to provide a very special atmosphere right in the middle of the village. James the landlord has a knack of choosing good-looking crumpet to serve behind the bar.
